Good manufacturers specialize in a primary manufacturing process, be it progressive stamping, molding, computer numerical control (CNC) turning, and so on.
The best manufacturers have their primary manufacturing expertise and an additional range of secondary services so that they can offer their customers the most complete products possible. Bracalente Manufacturing Group (BMG) does just that.
Our primary expertise is in CNC turning and milling processes, but we also offer a full suite of secondary operations. These secondary operations allow us to provide excellently machined parts at a high degree of completion and help us to maintain our global reputation as a leading manufacturing solutions provider.
Surface Treatment
Among the secondary services BMG offers are a number of metal finishing processes. These processes fall into one of three general categories: mechanical finishes, such as grinding and honing; metal heat treatment, which includes processes such as annealing, for strength; and metal surface treatment.
A metal surface treatment is any process that affects, alters, or adds to the surface of a metal part. These treatments seek to perform a variety of functions; though corrosion resistance is the most commonly used, each type serves a different purpose.
Coating & Plating Processes
Coating and plating processes seek to either alter the surface of metal parts at a molecular level or to fully cover it. The goal of these processes is almost exclusively corrosion prevention. Some of the coating and plating services BMG offers include:
- Anodizing
- Galvanizing
- Phosphatizing
- Enameling
- Blackening
- Electroplating, electropolishing, and electric dip-coat painting
- Chrome and nickel plating
- Plasma coating
- CVD and PVD coating
Paint and Color Coats
As with coating and plating, painting and color coating are metal surface treatments primarily meant to prevent corrosion. They do, however, have a number of other purposes: control and prevention of fouling, the growth of marine life in aquatic environments; increase heat and abrasion resistance, as well as grip; and decrease solar absorption, among others. The painting and coating services offered by BMG include:
- Powder coating
- Spray painting
- Robotic painting
Additional Surface Treatments
There are a range of mechanical finishing treatments that, when performed in advance of certain metal surface treatments, can also be considered metal surface treatments in and of themselves. For example, certain plating processes lead to better results if the part has a particular surface finish; likewise, paint will not adhere properly to a part that is dirty or greasy from the manufacturing process. Additional surface treatments of this nature offered by BMG include:
- Sand blasting
- Roto finishing
- Barrel finishing
- Parts cleaning
- Degreasing
- Passivation
- Lapping
- Build-up welding
